On May 10th, the Idaho State Senate passed Bill 1211, allowing for the execution of 90 percent of the State’s wolves.Supporters of the law claim that wolves have been detrimental to farms and livestock. Here are the facts: 1. The average number of livestock killed by wolves in Idaho within the las 3 years amounts to less than 0.005%2. This new law introduces new and cruel ways for hunters and trappers to kill wolves. These include mass killing from helicopters, ATVs, and other vehicles. Wolf pups can also be killed if found on private property. There is currently no limit to how many wolf tags hunters can hold.3. This new legislation utilize tax payer dollars to hire contractors to kill wolves.4. Wolves are a keystone species. This means that wolves are integral to the well being of local ecosystems.
